Chief Justice Message

Chief Justice of Somalia.
Hon. Bashe Yusuf Ahmed

Welcome to the Official Website

Supreme Court of Somalia

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

It is with great honour that I present this official website of the Supreme Court of Somalia. This digital platform functions as a gateway to our institution, providing a transparent and accessible window into the workings of the highest court in the country.

The Supreme Court plays a critical role in upholding the rule of law, protecting the rights of citizens, and ensuring that justice prevails. This website is designed to inform the public about our jurisdiction, procedures, legal frameworks, and decisions. Here, you will find information on our judges, staff, relevant legislations, and the cases we hear.

Since our nation’s independence in 1960, the judiciary has been a central pillar in safeguarding Somalia’s legal system. This system is built on the foundation of our first Constitution, which declared Somalia a sovereign, democratic republic. Our 1960 Constitution safeguarded key principles of equality, human rights, and the protection of fundamental freedoms. It confirmed the importance of Islam as the religion of the state and laid down the fundamental rights of citizens. Our legal tradition, further strengthened by the Organisation of Judiciary Law of 1962, continues to guide us today, guaranteeing the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law across the country.

The Provisional Federal Constitution of 2012 marked another significant step in Somalia’s legal development. It particularly underpinned federalism, the separation of powers, and the promotion of justice for all citizens. In conjunction with earlier legal frameworks, this Constitution underlines our country’s commitment to democratic principles and the protection of human rights.

As Chief Justice of the Somali Supreme Court, it is my duty to ensure that these laws are upheld and that justice is delivered fairly, impartially, and without delay. Our courts serve as the guardians of these legal principles, safeguarding that every citizen, regardless of background, receives equal protection under the law.

Our nation faces many challenges, but with a strong and independent judiciary, we can continue to build a peaceful and prosperous future for all Somali citizens. The Somali Supreme Court remains committed to strengthening the capacity of our legal institutions and embracing new technologies that will make justice more accessible, efficient, and fair.

I invite you to explore the plethora of information available on this website and to join us in our pursuit of justice for all Somali citizens. I invite you to explore our website and learn more about the Supreme Court and the judiciary of Somalia.

Thank You.
