MOGADISHU, Somalia, August 26, 2024: – In a significant move to enhance transparency and efficiency in the country’s justice system, the Somali judiciary has unveiled a comprehensive Judicial Communication Strategy. This initiative, spearheaded by the Supreme Court’s Office of Media and Public Relations, marks a crucial step in Somalia’s ongoing judicial reform efforts.
The strategy development process began on July 20, 2024, with a consultative meeting organized by the Supreme Court’s Communication department. This initial gathering brought together key players from the justice sector and university students to explore ways to strengthen communication and transparency within the judicial system. Discussions centered on enhancing judicial outreach to build public trust and foster a better understanding of the judiciary’s role in ensuring justice.
Today, Chief Justice Bashe Yusuf Ahmed chaired a follow-up meeting to review the progress of the communication strategy. The session included high-ranking officials such as the Attorney General and chairman of the Appeal Courts, along with various representatives from the judicial sector. Participants underscored the importance of a well-structured communication department in improving public awareness and ensuring transparency in judicial operations.
This strategy is a cornerstone in our efforts to build a more transparent and accessible justice system, Chief Justice Baashe stated. “By improving our communication with the public and key stakeholders, we aim to foster greater trust and understanding of judicial processes.
The new communication strategy is designed to serve as a foundation for enhancing the judiciary’s efficiency while ensuring that legal institutions operate with increased transparency and accountability. It aligns with broader judicial reform efforts aimed at modernizing Somalia’s legal system and improving its responsiveness to public needs.
