Somalia’s Chief Justice Joins African Leaders in Advancing Justice and Human Rights at CJCA Congress

In a landmark moment for Somalia’s judiciary, Chief Justice H.E. Bashe Yusuf Ahmed attended the 7th Congress of the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of Africa (CJCA) in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. The event, hosted by Zimbabwe’s Chief Justice, has drawn leaders and legal experts from across the continent to discuss pressing issues of justice and human rights in Africa.

The congress saw Somalia elected to the CJCA Governing Council, marking a significant achievement for the nation on the regional stage. Expressing his gratitude to the host country, Chief Justice Ahmed underscored the importance of the CJCA as a forum for strengthening constitutional governance across Africa.

Commitment to Human Rights

In his address, Chief Justice Ahmed emphasized Somalia’s dedication to upholding human rights, referencing Article 10 of Somalia’s constitution, which underscores the protection of rights and freedoms for all citizens. He called for the ratification of Human Rights charters across Africa, stating, “This is a crucial step towards a just and accountable Africa. Together, we can advance justice and uphold the rule of law on the continent.”

The Chief Justice also highlighted the role of Somalia’s judiciary in safeguarding the rights of citizens and promoting accountability, affirming Somalia’s commitment to the CJCA’s principles and the broader mission of constitutional governance in Africa.

A Vision for a Just Africa

Chief Justice Ahmed’s remarks resonated with other African leaders, who expressed support for increased collaboration in promoting justice and protecting human rights across the continent. The congress concluded with a call to action for all member states to strengthen their commitments to human rights, justice, and the rule of law.
