Inspection Unit

Inspection Unit

The Inspection Unit serves as the Supreme Court’s internal oversight and performance-monitoring body. It is mandated to examine the operational, procedural, and administrative performance of the judiciary to ensure consistency with applicable laws, ethical standards, and institutional objectives. The unit conducts scheduled and unscheduled inspections of courts, reviews case management systems, and assesses compliance with judicial and administrative procedures.

While it receives and investigates complaints against judicial officers and court staff, the Unit does not itself impose disciplinary measures. Instead, it prepares detailed reports containing factual findings and professional recommendations, which are forwarded to the relevant authorities—such as the Judicial Service Commission or the Office of the Chief Justice—for any necessary action.

In collaboration with the Judicial Training Institute, the Inspection Unit identifies recurring challenges and institutional gaps, and proposes targeted training programmes to address issues identified. It also supports the development of standards, benchmarks, and periodic performance evaluation tools, ensuring courts function efficiently, transparently, and in line with constitutional guarantees of access to justice.
